Paying tribute to the merits of an outstanding statesman

On September 24, a foundation stone laying ceremony for a future monument to the outstanding statesman and USSR Minister of Fisheries, Alexander Ishkov, took place in Vladivostok on the campus of the Far Eastern State Technical Fisheries University (Dalrybvtuz).

Alexander Akimovich represents an entire era in the history of the fishing industry. He is the only leader in the world to have led it for 40 years. Thanks to his tireless work and strategic vision, both the front and the rear were continuously supplied with essential fish products during the Great Patriotic War. Under his leadership, more than 20,000 fishing vessels were built, and the fish catch reached a record 11 million tons.

Opening the event, Vasily Sokolov, Deputy Head of the Federal Agency for Fisheries, noted that Alexander Ishkov's legacy is a modern, dynamically developing fishing industry that ensures the country's food security and makes a significant contribution to its economy. Kirill Kolonchin, Doctor of Economics and Director of the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO), also delivered a welcoming address.

"USSR Fisheries Minister Alexander Akimovich Ishkov pioneered the development of the fishing industry and brought it to a global level.
