Representatives from Russia and other APEC economies discussed issues of increasing ocean resilience

At the beginning of the third ten-day period of November, the First APEC Ocean Resilience Conference was held in Busan, Republic of Korea.

It followed the initiative to implement the draft APEC Ocean Resilience Enhancement Roadmap, which was announced at the 24th meeting of the APEC Ocean and Fisheries Working Group (OFWG). OFWG participants concluded that regional cooperation to ensure the sustainability of the marine sector is essential in the face of rising sea levels, marine pollution, and illegal fishing.

The goal of the November Conference is to specify issues that could be included in the Roadmap being developed.

The Roadmap highlights sustainability in fisheries and aquaculture, strengthening risk management and mitigating the consequences of natural disasters, and the use of innovative technologies and climate data on the marine environment as key elements.

Vladimir Radchenko, Head of the Department of International Scientific and Technical Cooperation and Advanced Development at the Pacific Branch of the Russian State Research Center "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO), participated in the Conference events as part of the Russian delegation approved by the Federal Agency for Fisheries.

He presented a report, "Good Fisheries Management as a Key to Ensuring a Sustainable Ocean," which reflects Russia's views on good fisheries management in open waters.

Representatives of other APEC economies included representatives from the Republic of Korea, the People's Republic of China, the Kingdom of Thailand, Chinese Taipei, the Republic of Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Republic of the Philippines.

Andrey Kim, the Federal Agency for Fisheries' representative in the Republic of Korea, provided significant informational and organizational support to the Russian delegation.

Strengthening international scientific and technical ties promotes scientific and technological progress, knowledge exchange, and the search for solutions to pressing regional problems based on a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach.
