Experts assessed the state of stocks of ichthyofauna and invertebrates, and also presented conclusions on the possibility of creating fish breeding sites in Primorsky Krai and proposals for adjusting fishing rules for the Far Eastern basin.
The purpose of the expedition is to study the current state of aquatic biological resources and background conditions in the Western‑Kamchatka shelf in the summer of 2026. In an area of over 33,000 km2, scientists conducted 110 accounting trawls, performed a complete biological analysis of more than 100 fish specimens and about 24,000 invertebrates, and measured over 25,000 aquatic organisms.
Data analysis showed a slight decrease in the recorded biomass of the bottom Ichthyocene in the summer of 2026 — experts attribute this to natural causes and a possible underestimation of aquatic organisms. At the same time, the bottom Ichthyocene is Western‑The Kamchatka subzone remains stable.
