From March 27 to May 16, Oleg Goltsev, senior engineer of the scientific expedition Department of the Polar Branch of the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO), carried out research on the raw material base for the extraction of blue-horned (black) halibut on the fishing vessel M-0351 Zvezda Murman.

The work was carried out in the northwestern part of the Atlantic Ocean (the NAFO Regulatory Area) in the waters of the northwestern slope of the Flamish Cap Bank (subdistrict 3M) and the northeast of the Greater Newfoundland Bank in the St. Johns area (subdistrict 3L).

During the fishing period, the vessel performed 70 bottom trawls, in which the species composition of the catches was assessed, and a specialist conducted a biological analysis of the catches of 32 trawls. They measured more than 6.6 thousand. fish of various species, a field analysis of nutrition of 1575 specimens was carried out. 320 samples were taken for age analysis.

According to the research results, the raw material base of the halibut fishery in the studied area is marked at a fairly high level. The data collected during the voyage indicates the stability of the commercial stock of black halibut in the area.
