The Cheboksary Reservoir has been replenished with young sterlet

In the Nizhny Novgorod Region, the Cheboksary Reservoir was stocked with juvenile sterlet, a rare and highly valuable sturgeon species listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation.

The event is aimed at restoring the species' population and increasing the biological diversity of the reservoir, where natural spawning grounds are extremely limited.

Specialists from the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) participated in the work, providing scientific support for the release process. Representatives from the Nizhny Novgorod branch were part of the commission that monitored the general condition of the juveniles, their average size, body weight, and other factors.

The stocking was carried out under the supervision of specialists from the Department of State Control, Supervision, and Protection of Aquatic Biological Resources for the Nizhny Novgorod Region of the Moscow-Oka Territorial Administration of the Federal Agency for Fisheries, ensuring compliance with all requirements and standards.

The release of juvenile sterlet is part of efforts to compensate for damage to aquatic bioresources caused by economic activities and is aimed at preserving biodiversity and ensuring the sustainable reproduction of aquatic ecosystems in the region.
