The development of aquaculture was discussed in Vladikavkaz: MELKOM Group's record production facilities and VNIRO scientific support

On April 16, Vladikavkaz hosted the Second regional conference "Aquaculture of the North Caucasus. Growth points and Development potential", organized by the National Research Center of the Russian Federation "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO) together with Melkom Group of Companies (AQUAREX brand).
 
The conference was moderated by Roman Artyomov, Director of the Department of Applied Research of Compound Feeds and Scientific Support of Production. Mikhail Dorofeev, Chairman of the Management Board, General Director of MELCOM Group JSC, and Igor Kadzaev, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of North Ossetia–Alania, delivered welcoming speeches. In their addresses, they stressed the need for further development of aquaculture in the region and the key role of high-quality feed in achieving stable production performance.
 
The audience was greatly interested in the report by Denis Yankov, head of the sales department at Melkom-Market LLC, on new feeding standards for fish farms in the North Caucasus. The Melkom Group speaker focused on the company's production facilities. The expert noted that the total volume of extruded feed production at two plants (Tver and Vyazma) exceeds 160 thousand tons per year. The Tver plant produces 61 thousand tons of starter (0.2–2.0 mm) and production (2.5–10.0 mm) feed – a total of 16 fractions. The new plant in Vyazma with a capacity of 108 thousand tons, designed by specialists of the Swiss concern, is in the stage of commissioning in 2026.
 
The key reports were presented by VNIRO specialists. In particular, Maxim Arnautov, Head of the Feed and Feed Components Department at VNIRO, spoke about new approaches to quality control.
 
Victoria Barinova, Director of the Department of Aquaculture, and Sergey Bindyukov, Chief Specialist of the Feed and Feed Components Department of VNIRO, spoke about the formation of a prevention system in fish farms and approaches to the development of preventive compound feeds.
 
The conference participants also paid great attention to environmental aspects. Alexander Zavyalov, Chief Specialist of the Department of Technologies and Regulation of Aquaculture, and Kirill Kivva, Director of the Department of Aquatic Bioresources and their Habitat, spoke about the wastewater treatment technology of industrial aquaculture enterprises, the problems of recycling by-products in aquaculture and climate change, as well as the state of water sources in the North Caucasus.
 
The conference was attended by more than 200 representatives of fish farms, which confirms the high interest in the development of aquaculture in the North Caucasus. The participants supported the initiative to hold the conference on a regular basis due to its high practical importance.
