The first integrated scientific research expedition of NIS TINRO has started this year

The TINRO scientific research vessel has started the spring program of comprehensive research.

The scientific group includes ichthyologists, hydrobiologists, oceanologists, and acoustics specialists from the Central Institute of the Scientific Research Center of the Russian Federation "All−Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO) and its Pacific branch.

After completing hydrological and hydrobiological work in the Amur Bay, in order to understand the processes of formation, advection of high-density marine waters, and their impact on aquatic biological resources, scientists will continue to study the species composition of nectonic communities, the state of stocks of commercial species in the oceanic and Okhotsk waters of the southern Kuril Islands, as well as in the Sea of Okhotsk.

The priority is to estimate the abundance and biomass of herring and spawning pollock in the studied areas based on ichthyoplankton, trawl, and acoustic methods.

The information obtained will be used to predict the state of stocks and prepare a justification for the total allowable catch in the Far East.

Scientific justification is a prerequisite for the organization of fishing, providing the basis for the rational use of aquatic biological resources and the economic efficiency of fisheries enterprises.

The VNIRO team wishes all specialists at NIS TINRO seven feet under the keel, no tail, no scales, as well as further scientific success.
