The fishing area was fenced with flags, the distance between the holes was at least 2 m, each fisherman used only 1 fishing rod, fishing was conducted for 1 hour. The championship was attended by 11 specialists from the Northern Branch of the SSC RF "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO), both fishermen with extensive experience and beginners.
The fishing gear is a winter fishing rod with a jig, a bloodworm and maggot bait. The fish in the lake's water area was unevenly distributed, and the participants had to move around a lot and look for suitable places. All the fish caught belonged to one species – river bass.
The main battle ensued between three experienced fishermen. As a result, Roman Melnik, a specialist at the coastal research laboratory, won with a catch weight of 980 g, Gennady Fuchs, a senior researcher at the same laboratory, won silver with 708 g, and Andrey Shcherbakov, a junior specialist at the Laboratory of Bioresources of Inland Waters, won bronze.
The winners were awarded with diplomas and memorable prizes, as well as diplomas for participation were awarded to all participants of the championship.
