The Magadan branch of VNIRO monitors the industrial catch of northern shrimp

Specialists from the Magadan branch of the Russian State Research Center "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO) have begun monitoring the northern shrimp fishery in its traditional catch area—the North Okhotsk subzone of the Sea of Okhotsk.

The Magadan northern shrimp is a valuable food resource and a well-known brand in our country. The utilization of quotas for this species has been consistently high in recent years.

The validity of scientific recommendations and the effective exploitation of northern shrimp are based on the long-standing collaboration between the branch and Magadanryba.

During the expeditionary research, it is planned to collect traditional biological and statistical data on the shrimp, conduct biological analyses, and conduct mass measurements. The new vessel's performance will be compared with previous data to maintain the objectivity of the long-term observation series. The currently favorable ice and weather conditions in the northern Sea of Okhotsk allow us to expect the vessel to operate effectively and collect high-quality scientific data.

The data obtained during the monitoring work will be used to forecast total allowable catches of shrimp in the northern North Okhotsk subzone, as well as to develop recommendations for the rational exploitation of this aquatic biological resource.
