The journal serves as an important platform for the exchange of knowledge in fisheries science: it publishes the research results of employees of TINRO, other VNIRO branches and third-party scientific organizations. Over the years, the publication has become a reliable source of up-to-date data on a wide range of areas of fisheries research.
The history of the magazine dates back to 1928, when it was published under the name Izvestia TONES (Pacific Scientific Station). In 1930, it was renamed Izvestia TIRH (Pacific Institute of Fisheries), and in 1937 it acquired its modern name ‑ Izvestia TINRO.
Today, the journal is a recognized scientific resource: since 2002, it has been included in the list of the Higher Attestation Commission, has a translated version and is represented in key international databases and citation systems (CA(pt), Scopus, Springer, WoS). It is indexed eLIBRARY.RU , RSCI, RSCI Core, RSCI, CrossRef, DOAJ and other platforms, including Google Scholar, Dimensions, EBSCO and WorldCat. According to the assessment of the Interdepartmental Working Group, Izvestia TINRO is classified as level II in the Unified State List of Scientific Publications (the "White List").
