The fisheries science division in the Amur basin was established in 1945 and has grown from a small VNIRO department to a large Khabarovsk branch.
The branch's current area of responsibility includes the waters of the Sea of Japan and the Sea of Okhotsk adjacent to Khabarovsk Krai, as well as inland waters within the Amur Region, the Jewish Autonomous Region, and Khabarovsk Krai, including the main river artery in the Far East—the Amur River.
Every year, specialists from the Khabarovsk branch of VNIRO spend hundreds of vessel days at sea and on the river to assess the state of aquatic bioresources. The expeditionary research resulted in prepared recommendations for fisheries management for more than 50 forecasted offshore targets and approximately 95 in the Amur River basin.
The Khabarovsk branch of VNIRO is actively developing innovative methods of fisheries research using unmanned aerial vehicles, underwater robots, and hydroacoustic systems. Artificial intelligence technologies are being implemented in data processing.
Currently, the branch's expeditionary work is supported by a fleet of several research vessels. A shared-use center for "Innovative Methods of Fisheries Research" has been established at the Khabarovsk branch. Design documentation is being developed for the construction of a new research station, essentially a new building for our branch with a range of associated services to support expeditionary work.
The branch's staff and veterans were congratulated by Oleg Bulatov, Deputy Director for Research, who read a congratulatory address from VNIRO Director Kirill Kolonchin, Doctor of Economics, and Nikita Korol, Chairman of the Fisheries Committee.
