Kirill Kutsanov and Evgeny Brazhnikov, employees of the laboratory of commercial invertebrates, monitored gammarid and chironomid stocks in 10 lakes with a total area of more than 2 thousand hectares.
As part of the research, samples of zooplankton and zoobenthos were selected using various hydrobiological selection tools. Simultaneously with the collection of this material, abiotic environmental factors were recorded in the lakes: ice thickness, temperature and oxygen conditions, and salinity. In addition, water samples were taken for hydrochemical analysis.
The specialists of the specialized laboratory have taken more than 100 samples, and all the material is in the process of in-house processing. The results of the expedition will be used to assess the size of the reserve and prepare materials justifying the recommended catch of gammarids and chironomids in the lakes of the Kurgan region.
