During a personal meeting with Oleg Bulatov, VNIRO's Director of Research, Oskar spoke about preparations for an ecological expedition across three oceans on the raft "Mirriko." Oleg Bulatov, in turn, introduced the guest to VNIRO's activities, its research sites, and outlined areas where he sees opportunities to develop their relationship.
To implement joint scientific and educational projects, the parties signed a cooperation agreement and discussed next steps.
Following the signing, the guest was given a tour of the laboratory building, where he was able to see the modern equipment used by VNIRO specialists for their research.
Fyodor Konyukhov's new solo, round-the-world ecological expedition is scheduled to launch in late 2026. Its first leg will include a 160-day, 15,000-nautical-mile voyage across the Pacific Ocean from Chile to Australia. The Mirrico raft, a unique research vessel under construction at a Dubai shipyard, is unique in the world. The raft will be equipped with modern control, navigation, and satellite communications systems, automated sail and mast controls, solar panels and wind turbines, seawater desalination systems, and a scientific module.
The goal of the expedition across the Pacific, Indian, and Atlantic oceans will be not only to test human capabilities but also to study the extent of ocean pollution.
