VNIRO at the Baikal Fishing 2026 Ice Fishing Festival

At the end of March, the XX anniversary international ice fishing tournament "Baikal Fishing – 2026" was held in the village of Turka in the Baikal region of the Republic of Buryatia. In terms of the number of participants, the festival was included in the Russian Book of Records. 1,623 people have experienced their fishing luck on the Baikal ice this year.
 
370 teams from all over Russia, as well as from China, Mongolia, the Republic of Belarus, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Mali and Libya participated in the main competition, including 46 women's and 28 family teams. Everyone fought in equal conditions – sunny, warm weather, a light breeze and ice 1.5 meters thick.
 
The women's team became the winners of the tournament for the second time in the history of the festival. The Siberians from Novosibirsk and Kemerovo regions with a catch of 2,760 g received the main prize – a TANK 300 car. The Tsunami team from Krasnoyarsk took the 2nd place with a result of 2,106 g, the Tornado–2 team took the 3rd place with a catch of 1,516 g.
 
Among the 143 participants in the children's Baikal fishing, young fishermen also became the best.
 
The Baikal Gammarid women's team, which participated from the Baikal branch of the National Research Center of the Russian Federation "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO), took 53rd place in the overall standings in a hard struggle, catching 39 steers with a total weight of 462 g.
