VNIRO has begun a large-scale research expedition in the autumn-winter period

Specialists from the Freshwater Fisheries Branch of the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) will conduct a series of studies to study the status of valuable fish populations, determine the total allowable catch and recommended catch of aquatic biological resources, the ecological status of water bodies, and the quality of aquatic bioresources.

The data obtained will help develop recommendations for sustainable fisheries management and biodiversity conservation.

The study's geographic scope covers the Uglich, Ivankovskoye, and Rybinskoye reservoirs of the Upper Volga, as well as the Moscow Canal reservoirs (Ikshanskoye, Pestovskoye, Pyalovskoye, and Klyazmenskoye).

"As part of this expedition, test trawling has already been conducted on the Uglich Reservoir. Further trawling, water sampling, and fish population monitoring are planned for the Upper Volga and Moscow Canal reservoirs," commented Dmitry Goryachev, head of the research department, on the results of the initial study.

The research vessel will continue its work until the end of September.

After the expedition, all collected samples will be transferred to the branch's scientists for further processing in the laboratory.
