VNIRO is a participant in the All-Russian campaign "Science is Nearby"

The All-Russian "Science Nearby" campaign is being held as part of the Decade of Science and Technology.

Researchers at the Vologda Branch of the Russian State Research Center of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) have already held three events as part of this campaign this year: a tour of fish species diversity and fisheries in the Vologda Region, master classes on fish study methods, and a lecture on the development of aquaculture in the region.

On October 20, Senior Specialist Sergei Neporotovsky organized and hosted the event "Inhabitants of the Fourth Environment" at the branch site. The event was a video lecture on fish parasites. Students and schoolchildren attended the event. During the lecture, attendees learned about the diversity of fish parasites found in the waters of the Vologda Region, learned about their life cycles, and viewed photographs and videos of live parasites. Several species of helminths were presented to the participants as wet mounts. In the final part of the discussion, participants were introduced to fish parasites that are dangerous to humans, as well as safety measures and biohelminthiasis prevention.

Schoolchildren and students actively participated in the discussion and asked questions. Such meetings play an important role in popularizing scientific research on the water bodies of the Vologda Region for people of all age groups.
