VNIRO is developing new areas of international cooperation

On January 26, specialists from the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) held an online meeting with the Central Fisheries Research Institute of Turkey (SUMAE) to discuss prospects for developing mutually beneficial cooperation.

During the meeting, the parties presented reports on the development of the two countries' fisheries sectors, learned about the activities of their respective institutes, and shared their achievements in aquaculture.

The Turkish side highly praised the level of development of Russian sturgeon farming and expressed a desire to exchange experience in this area. The Russian side, in turn, expressed interest in the technologies used by Turkey for cultivating Black Sea trout (Salmo labrax) and Black Sea turbot (Scophthalmus maeoticus) in sea cages.

Potential areas of cooperation included the exchange of experience and technologies in aquaculture, the exchange of specialists to train qualified fisheries personnel, and joint research and publications.

VNIRO Deputy Director Ilya Gerashchenko noted the high potential for cooperation with SUMAE.

The Turkish delegation, led by SUMAE Director Nazli Kasapoglu, also expressed hope for further cooperation.

The parties agreed to prepare a draft memorandum of understanding outlining specific areas of cooperation between VNIRO and SUMAE.
