VNIRO specialists conducted research on the Volgograd and Saratov reservoirs

Specialists from the Saratov branch of the Russian State Research Center "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO) completed a series of surveys at sites where hydromechanized operations were underway and sand deposits were being developed on the Volgograd and Saratov reservoirs.

Set nets, cone traps, and a juvenile seine were used to assess the state of the ichthyofauna in the water use areas. The net catches were measured and age-tested. The collected juvenile fish samples were recorded and sent to the laboratory for further analysis. Ichthyological observations will allow us to determine the species and abundance of ichthyofauna in the survey area, as well as to assess the extent of anthropogenic impact.

To determine the fish food supply, samples of phytoplankton, zooplankton, and zoobenthos were collected. The samples were recorded and sent to the branch for further laboratory analysis. Water quality analysis using hydrobiological parameters will allow us to assess the biota's response to anthropogenic impacts.

Hydrologic parameters such as temperature, depth, transparency, and the nature of the reservoir's soil were measured at all planned sampling points.
