Volga-Kama Scientific and Industrial Council

On November 12, 2025, a meeting of the Volga-Kama Scientific and Industrial Council was held in Izhevsk, chaired by Vasily Sokolov, Deputy Head of the Federal Agency for Fisheries.
 
Representatives of the Russian State Research Center "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO), academic research, the Kama-Volga branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Glavrybvoda," Rosvodresursy, the State Agricultural Production Association "Samarabkhoz," and regional government bodies participated in the Council's work.
 
The event participants focused on commercial fish farming, the challenges of aquaculture development, and possible solutions. In 2024, more than 12,000 tons of commercial fish were produced in the regions. The main species farmed include carp, herbivorous fish species, and, to a lesser extent, trout and sturgeon.
 
The meeting discussed the implementation of the 2024 decisions of the Volga-Kama Scientific and Fisheries Council. Specialists from the Perm, Tatar, Nizhny Novgorod, and Saratov branches of VNIRO presented reports on the status of aquatic bioresource stocks in water bodies within their area of ​​responsibility, along with fisheries science proposals for distributing TAC quotas for aquatic bioresources for 2026 among the constituent entities of the Russian Federation. Proposals for amending fishing regulations for the Volga-Caspian fishery basin were also considered.
 
Particular attention was paid to assessing the status of sterlet stocks in reservoirs, including taking into account that this species is listed in the Red Data Books of most constituent entities of the Russian Federation.
