On November 10, the operation to eliminate the so-called "whale prison" was completed, 10 killer whales and 87 Beluga whales were released. All animals are alive, have successfully adapted to independent life in the wild and now scientists continue to observe their behavior and movement with the help of satellite tags installed on them at release, said the Director of VNIRO.
Alexei Gordeev thanked all participants – experts and scientists, representatives of authorities and the public for successful collaboration and implementation of orders of President and Government.
In addition, Kirill Kolonchin said that in 2019, the regional fisheries institutions were united on the basis of VNIRO. The creation of a single state scientific center will expand the boundaries of expeditionary research and increase the contribution of our country to the study of aquatic biological resources of the world ocean. Currently, VNIRO has developed a design project and prepared the terms of reference for the construction of a series of modern research fishing vessels. Alexey Gordeev noted that budget funds to Finance the construction of two such vessels will be allocated in 2020.
