An observer from the Polar Branch of VNIRO completed work on the fishing vessel Proekt in the Barents Sea

From October 23 to November 23, Viktor Popov, a specialist of the scientific expedition department of the Polar Branch of the Russian State Research Center “All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography” (VNIRO), conducted scientific research on the fishing vessel M-0228 “Proekt” in the Barents Sea (within the EEZ of Russia, the Central and Eastern regions).
 
The main objectives of the research were to study the state of stocks of commercial species, biology, patterns of formation of accumulations, assess the prospects for the stability of the fishery, collect biological material and statistics.
 
The collected material will replenish the database of the branch and will be used to develop scientifically based recommendations for providing the fishing fleet with a sustainable raw material base for the fishery, improving the methods of short-term and long-term forecasting of the conditions of the bottom fish fishery in the Barents Sea.
