Caspian littoral countries have extended the moratorium on sturgeon fishing

At the meeting of the 6th session of the Commission for the Conservation and Rational Use of Aquatic Biological Resources and Management of their Joint Reserves of the Caspian Sea, representatives of the Caspian Five agreed to extend the ban on commercial fishing of sturgeon species for 2023 and not to set export quotas for black caviar for 2023. The catch of sturgeon species in 2023, as before, is scheduled to be carried out only for research purposes and for artificial reproduction.
The meeting, which lasted from December 19 to 21, 2022, was attended by representatives of Russia, the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. The Russian delegation included employees of Rosrybolovstvo and VNIRO.

Representatives of the Caspian littoral states discussed the implementation of fishing for joint aquatic biological resources, the main results of scientific research on the state of stocks of commercial species, as well as the work of countries on artificial reproduction and fish protection. The Russian Federation occupies a leading position in the field of conservation, restoration and study of aquatic biological resources of the Caspian Sea and their habitat.
