Comprehensive fishery research of Lake Polisto

From September 12 to 14, specialists from the Pskov and St. Petersburg branches of the Russian State Research Center “All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography” (VNIRO) conducted comprehensive fisheries research on Lake Polisto in the Bezhanitsky District of the Pskov Region in order to study the current state of aquatic biological resources and their habitat.

The specialists collected hydrochemical and hydrobiological samples and studied the qualitative and quantitative composition of the ichthyofauna of the reservoir. The expedition worked in difficult conditions, since the lake is located in a hard-to-reach area.

Currently, office processing of the collected materials is underway.

One of the objectives of the expedition was to study the parasite fauna of carp fish in the reservoir.

Lake Polisto is located in the center of the Polistovo-Lovatskaya swamp system and is one of the ten largest reservoirs in the region. According to research by Pskov ichthyologists in the late 1990s, its ichthyofauna includes 21 species of fish, including blue bream, pike perch, bream and sabrefish. It should be noted that this is the only lake in the Pskov region where sabrefish live. It is a specially protected natural area - a natural monument of the Pskov region "Polisto Lake".
