Comprehensive studies of commercial invertebrates of Western Siberia

The Tyumen branch of the Russian State Research Center “All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography” (VNIRO) has completed its first studies this year as part of state monitoring.

The expedition to the lakes of the Kurgan Region was conducted by specialists from the laboratory of commercial invertebrates of the Tyumen branch together with an employee of the Central Institute.

20 brackish and freshwater lakes with a total area of 70 km² were examined. Scientists studied the raw material base of gammarids and chironomids. For the first time, they conducted in-depth studies of the vertical distribution of gammarids under the ice: at the bottom, in the thickness and at the surface - this will allow them to more accurately calculate the stock of commercial invertebrates and make a forecast for their catch.

In addition, scientists continued exploratory surveys - reconnaissance studies of water bodies to update and expand the existing list of commercial lakes in Western Siberia.
