Continued cooperation

Scientists and environmentalists will continue conscientious work to monitor marine mammals released from the center for adaptation of the Srednyaya  Bay into the wild.

On December 9, Director of the all-Russian research Institute of fisheries and Oceanography Kirill Kolonchin met with the head of the regional public organization "Ecological watch of Sakhalin" Dmitry Lisitsyn in Moscow.

Sakhalin ecological watch is one of the members of the Coalition "for the freedom of killer whales and Beluga whales", with which VNIRO has an agreement on joint monitoring of the condition of animals released into natural habitats.

"Thank you for the release, without the position of VNIRO nothing would have happened," Dmitry Lisitsyn said at the beginning of the meeting.

During the conversation, the parties agreed on the rapid exchange of information on the current location and behavior of marine mammals.

Kirill Kolonchin thanked the public for his assistance in implementing the Animal Production Program and gave Dmitry Licitsyn gratitude.

The meeting was also attended by Vyacheslav Bizikov, Deputy Director for scientific work of VNIRO, and Alexey Smorodov, head of the public relations Department.
