Development of fisheries discussed in Tyumen region

Deputy Head of the Tyumen Branch of the Russian State Research Center of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) Yana Kapustina took part in an off-site meeting of the working group on the development of fisheries activities in the Tyumen Region.

The working group was formed under the Tyumen Regional Duma under the leadership of Deputy Chairperson of the regional parliament Natalia Shevchik.

The task of the working group is to conduct an expert study of emerging problems and develop proposals and recommendations for the further development of the industry in all areas.

The off-site meeting was held in the Sladkovsky District, the delegation visited the Sladkovsky Commodity Fish Farm, and after that, representatives of the legislative and executive authorities of the region, higher educational institutions, scientific organizations, fish farms and entrepreneurs discussed the use of aquatic biological resources and their role in the economy of the Tyumen Region.

The meeting touched upon current problems of the industry and the further prospective development of commercial fish farming in the region.

Today, the Tyumen branch of VNIRO is the largest supplier of whitefish seed material in the Tyumen region, with a share of over 90%. Peled larvae and their hybrids, obtained by the institute's specialists, are especially in demand at the region's fish farms. In addition, scientists and fish farmers of the Tyumen branch of VNIRO continue to test new hybrid variations to increase the volume of commercial cultivation not only in the Tyumen region, but throughout Western Siberia and the Urals, which will undoubtedly increase the country's food security.

During the meeting of the working group, it was decided to strengthen work with municipalities for more efficient use of fish stocks and an increase in commercial aquaculture. This will become a driver for the further development of the fisheries industry in the Tyumen region.
