Expedition along the lower reaches of the Lena River

Employees of the laboratory of aquatic bioresources of the Yakut branch of VNIRO conducted an expedition to assess the state of aquatic bioresources in the lower reaches of the Lena River in the Bulunsky District of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).

Field work was carried out on the Tit-Ary fishing site. As part of state monitoring, VNIRO specialists collected ichthyological and hydrobiological materials.

Compared to 2023, the water level of the Lena River in 2024 became lower, which allowed fishing organizations to more effectively conduct economic activities for harvesting fish, an increase in the number of whitefish is noted in the catches, as a result of the high water level during the spring flood and the flooding of floodplain lakes. The timing of the spawning run of the Arctic omul remained unchanged.

After office processing of the collected material, VNIRO specialists will assess the state of the ichthyofauna and its habitat.
