Field research on the Tavda River

From October 7 to 18, specialists from the Ural branch of the Russian State Research Center “All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography” (VNIRO) conducted field studies of the Tavda River in the Sverdlovsk Region.

The studies included collecting ichthyological material for biological analysis of fish using net fishing, collecting hydrobiological (zoo-, phytoplankton, zoobenthos) and hydrochemical samples. In addition, specialists monitored the temperature regime and transparency of water in the river.

The species composition and biological characteristics of the studied fish populations were studied. The composition of the ichthyofauna of the Tavda River (and its numerous tributaries) includes about twenty species. The main commercial fish species are bream, crucian carp, roach, pike, perch, ide. In the last five years, there has been an increase in the number of a valuable species - pike perch.

A low water level was noted relative to the high-water period of 2016-2020. However, compared to the previous, extremely low-water year of 2023, it has increased slightly. Low water levels can negatively affect the conditions for fattening, wintering and reproduction of fish populations inhabiting the river.
