The research group is conducting trawl-acoustic and ichthyoplankton surveys of spawning pollock. It includes ichthyologists, hydrobiologists, oceanographers, and acousticians from the Central Institute of the State Research Center of the Russian Federation “All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography” (VNIRO) and the Pacific Branch of VNIRO (TINRO).
The information obtained will be used to forecast the state of stocks and prepare a justification for the total allowable catch (TAC) in the Far East.
Since March 22, scientists have been conducting research along the southern Kuril Islands. As of March 31, they have completed 23 complex hydrobiont census stations (more than 5.4 thousand specimens have been measured), 37 hydrological stations, and 29 hydrobiological stations. The planned return to Vladivostok is the third ten-day period of May.
In the first quarter, TINRO, in close cooperation with specialists from the VNIRO Research Fleet Base, is conducting 20 expeditions using the equipment of the Research Fleet-Vostok Collective Use Center (RFC-Vostok).
From January to March, 15 TINRO observers and 3 observers from the Kamchatka branch of VNIRO collected data on the biology and fishery of pollock and herring on 14 fishing vessels of the Pollock Fishermen's Association (ADM). Fishery monitoring continues.
In addition to the R/V Professor Kaganovsky, the R/V Ubezhdenniy has been on a marine expedition since March 27. The scientists' task is to collect data on spawning pollock in Peter the Great Bay. The first ichthyoplankton survey was completed over the course of 4 days.
Employees of the pollock and herring laboratories, and biological resources of the Far Eastern and Arctic seas collected data on coastal fisheries from catches delivered to coastal enterprises of fish processing plants in the villages of Kamenka, Yuzhno-Morskoye, and on Shikotan Island. They collected data on the composition of catches of teams working in the coastal waters of Peter the Great Bay and studied trends in recreational fishing in Primorsky Krai.
Employees of the TINRO laboratory of commercial oceanography collected background data in February in the coastal areas of Khanka Island and on the rivers of southern Primorye.
