Fishing according to science in Tyumen

The Tyumen branch of the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) held the 1st (regional) stage of the VNIRO Championship in amateur fishing. The competition took place on Lake Volkovo in the Tobolsk region.

11 fishermen took to the ice, three each from the Khanty-Mansiysk department and the Tobolsk regional fish hatchery, five represented the head unit of the branch.

Mostly experienced fishermen took part in the tournament; everyone chose their own fishing method and bait - from jigs to balance beams. Some relied on the quantity of fish, others - on quality and tried to catch bigger fish.

According to the results of the tournament, Sergei Sennik became the absolute winner, his catch was 604 grams. He also caught the largest fish - a seventy-gram pike. Pavel Shavrin took second place in the competition with a catch of 410 grams; he also opened the scoring for the tournament and caught the first fish. Vitaly Tunev took bronze, his fishing catch was 270 grams. The Audience Award was won by Ilmir Mukhamedulin.

According to the rules of the VNIRO Amateur Fishing Championship “Fishing by Science”, three fishermen from the Tyumen branch advanced to the second (basin) stage - one of the most productive representatives from each structural division.
