The plenary session was attended by the head of the Federal Agency for Fisheries Ilya Shestakov, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Dmitry Pyshny, Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Nikolai Dolgushkin, Head of the Laboratory of Mammal Behavior and Behavioral Ecology of the A. N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vyacheslav Rozhnov, FAO Director for Liaison with the Russian Federation Oleg Kobyakov and Director of the Heilongjiang Research Institute of Fisheries of the Chinese Academy of Fisheries Sciences Zheng Xiang Hu. The moderator of the Plenary Session was the Director of the State Research Center of the Russian Federation "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO), Doctor of Economics Kirill Kolonchin.
Addressing the participants of the Conference, combined this year with the School of Young Scientists, Kirill Kolonchin noted the expanding geography of speakers, participants and listeners with each subsequent event.
“A large delegation from the People’s Republic of China is taking part in the work of the III International Conference and the V School of Young Scientists this year, which includes the management and scientists of five leading research institutes of the fishing industry and the Chinese Academy of Fisheries Sciences. Our scientific collaboration is mutually beneficial, since it allows us to freely exchange experiences, share ideas and jointly engage in research work,” noted the director of VNIRO.
In his speech, the head of Rosrybolovstvo Ilya Shestakov noted the important role of science in the development of the fisheries complex of Russia. He emphasized that thanks to the painstaking work of scientists, the regulator and domestic fishermen have accurate and objective information about the phenomena occurring and the state of aquatic biological resources.
"The main event of 2024 is the assignment of the status of a state scientific center of the Russian Federation to the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography. Of course, this is a well-deserved recognition of the achievements of the institute and its scientific potential. Today, VNIRO is a large scientific center, including 29 branches from Kaliningrad to Chukotka, where about 4 thousand scientists and specialists work," said Ilya Shestakov.
"It is thanks to the scientific, rational approach to the exploitation of stocks that our country remains self-sufficient and maintains its position as a major exporter of fish products. It is necessary to continue research in the field of genetics, selection, and the development of new feed recipes," the head of Rosrybolovstvo emphasized.
Ilya Shestakov told the event participants that VNIRO scientists annually conduct comprehensive research in all fishery basins of Russia and outside domestic waters. Last year, they carried out 967 scientific expeditions.
The material and technical base is being updated: modern research vessels equipped with high-tech scientific equipment are being built.
Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Nikolay Dolgushkin informed the participants of the event about the results of the joint work of VNIRO scientists and specialized institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
He also presented the book “The Great Patriotic War in the Lives of Agricultural Scientists. Testimonies of Veterans”, prepared by the Russian Academy of Sciences for the 80th anniversary of the Victory.
After the completion of the Plenary Session, the conference continued in the sections “Biology and Rational Use of Aquatic Biological Resources”, “Modern Processing Technologies”, “Aquaculture and Biotechnology”, “Economics and Management”.
