On September 27, an environmental campaign was held to clean the beach of Admiral G.I. Nevelskoy Moscow State University in Fedorov Bay. The day before, the entire world celebrated Maritime Day – a holiday that reminds us of the importance of caring for nature.
Based on this event, a project in the field of ecology “In Harmony with the Sea” was prepared for students and young specialists. Its key idea is to develop the practice of conducting educational events: lectures on current environmental issues, cleaning up natural areas (beaches, parks) from garbage, in order to form habits and skills of caring for nature among young people, raising environmental culture, improving the environmental situation in traditional places of recreation for people, and popularizing science.
On Friday, September 27, the branch's research staff went to Fyodorov Bay.
Before the cleanup, Vladimir Kulepanov, PhD, spoke about the impact of anthropogenic pollution on aquatic bioresources, the main methods for assessing coastal water pollution and combating it.
One of the sources of negative anthropogenic impact on the World Ocean is plastic and microplastic: its total amount is estimated at more than 25 million tons, with about 500 thousand tons entering the ocean annually.
On a regional and global scale, the fight against marine plastic pollution includes the transition to biodegradable materials, the development of recycling, the adoption of uniform rules for waste-free production, separate collection and recycling of waste.
The actions of each of us determine whether our descendants will live in an ecologically safe world - or not!
