Monitoring of aquatic bioresources of the Transbaikal Territory

Specialists from the Baikal branch of the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) assessed the abundance and biomass of commercial fish stocks, the state of the food supply and the habitat of ichthyofauna in the Ivano-Arakhlei lakes and rivers of the Trans-Baikal Territory. Field research lasted more than a month.

Lakes Irgen and Ivan with a total area of more than 4,600 hectares are included in the list of the main commercial lakes of the Trans-Baikal Territory. In recent years, scientists note, due to the increased interest of the population in sports and amateur fishing tourism, the anthropogenic load on water bodies has increased. For fisheries research, the branch specialists collected ichthyological material, zoobenthos and zooplankton samples, and measured the main environmental indicators.

In addition, annual monitoring in the Upper Amur basin has continued. The object of research this year was the aquatic bioresources of the Ingoda River, which is one of the main waterways of the region, forming the Amur basin. Fisheries science work was carried out at three stations in the upper and middle reaches of the river. The sections of the main channel of the Ingoda, its channels, bays and backwaters were studied. As in the lakes, ichthyological material was collected, samples of zooplankton and zoobenthos were taken.

The obtained scientific results will form the basis for organizing measures for the conservation and rational use of aquatic bioresources of the Zabaikalsky Krai.
