Monitoring of recreational fishing completed in the central part of the Primorye subzone

Scientists from the Laboratory of Biological Resources of the Far Eastern and Arctic Seas of the Pacific Branch of the Russian State Research Center “All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography” (VNIRO) collected data from September 11 to 15 on the location of recreational fishing sites on the coast of Primorsky Krai from Vladimir Bay to Nakhodka Bay, the number of recreational fishermen, fishing equipment and techniques during recreational fishing, and the composition of catches.

Due to the growing popularity of recreational fishing in recent years, the catch of a number of aquatic organisms, apparently, can affect the state of stocks of these objects in their natural habitat. In order to prevent the depletion of aquatic bioresources, it is necessary to systematically assess the impact of recreational fishing on fish stocks.

During September field work, branch scientists near 10 settlements of the Olginsky, Lazovsky districts, and the Nakhodka urban district counted 130 amateur fishermen fishing from the shore, 85 fishing boats, conducted a survey of fishermen, and measured 521 specimens of aquatic organisms.

The results of the calculation and analysis of the average daily catch in terms of species composition will be taken into account to assess the possibilities of fishing and the potential amounts of aquatic organisms removed by amateur fishermen, the scientific substantiation of the volumes of the recommended catch, and the total permissible catch for the Primorye subzone.

Scientific support for fishing is a necessary condition for the conservation and rational use of aquatic bioresources.
