Monitoring studies of hyperhaline reservoirs

From April 21 to May 2, specialists from the Altai branch of the Russian State Research Center “All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography” (VNIRO) conducted research on hyperhaline reservoirs in 7 administrative districts of the Altai Territory.

The main objective of the work was to assess the development of the first generation of Artemia crustaceans and their habitat conditions in the spring in 17 water bodies as part of monitoring the state of aquatic bioresources and reconnaissance studies of potentially commercial hyperhaline reservoirs.

During the expedition, hydrobiological material (zooplankton, zoobenthos, Artemia cyst samples) and water samples for hydrochemical analysis were collected, and an assessment of abiotic conditions was also carried out (assessment of hydrological conditions in the spring, water and air temperature regime, measurement of water salinity, water transparency). Due to low temperature indicators in the main deep-water reservoirs (Lake Bolshoe and Maloe Yarovoe, Kuchukskoe and Kulundinskoe), a later development of the first generation of Artemia was noted (Artemia cysts were at the hatching stage).

The selected samples were delivered to the branch laboratories for further office processing. The processed data will be used in the materials of the forecast for the catch of aquatic bioresources for 2027.
