The fish were counted at the institute's fish farms in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug - Yugra. The young fish were grown in the floodplain fish hatcheries "Lake Vanzetursky Sor" and "Lake Aitor" in the Berezovsky and Oktyabrsky districts of Yugra.
With the flow of water from the nursery reservoirs, all the grown fish went into the main rivers of the Severnaya Sosva and Ob. The natural populations were replenished with stronger and adapted individuals that are ready for independent life in the wild. The average weight of young nelma was 1.84 g, muksun - 2.01 g, whitefish - 3.77 g.
The last few years have been extremely low-water, this year the region received high water, which will have a positive effect on the survival of fish, as their feeding areas and food supply have increased.
Annual releases make a significant contribution to the conservation of aquatic biodiversity in the Ob-Irtysh basin. Long-term work of fish farmers and scientists of the Tyumen branch of VNIRO has already stabilized the peled stocks, now this fish can be caught by amateur fishermen. Now the branch is focusing on growing more valuable species - muksun and nelma. Their share in the 2024 release was almost 90%.
In addition, the Federal Agency for Fisheries has approved a comprehensive program for the restoration of whitefish in the Ob-Irtysh basin. It is planned that its implementation will begin next year.
