Observations on water bodies of the Kirov region have been completed

Employees of the Perm branch of the State Research Center of the Russian Federation "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO) have completed observations on water bodies of the Kirov Region, which were conducted from May to September of this year.

On the Vyatka River, fixed and drift nets were used to collect ichthyological material. In the research catches, the most numerous species were sterlet, crucian carp, roach and bream.

In the catches of amateur fishermen, the most common predators are pike perch, pike, asp, perch, and among peaceful species: bream, roach and sabrefish.

For several years now, unfavorable conditions for fish reproduction have developed on the Vyatka River. Due to the weak and short-term flood, spawning of mass species occurs during the water recede. In the summer-autumn period, the water level remains low (0.5-0.7 m below the average long-term values), which leads to a reduction in feeding areas. As a result, the stocks of many fish species remain at a low level.
