In anticipation of the 100th anniversary of the branch in September 2025, it opens a series of exhibitions dedicated to the history of the Institute.
The exhibition presents photographs from the archive covering the period of the formation of Russian fisheries science in the Far East (1925 - 1940s). It begins with the establishment of the Pacific Scientific and Fisheries Station (TONS) in 1925. Then the first director of the station - Professor Konstantin Mikhailovich Deryugin - headed a small but united team united by a common goal.
During the difficult times of the country's recovery from the upheavals of the First World War, the revolutionary events of 1917, and foreign intervention, the staff of TONS (since 1929, the Pacific Scientific Institute of Fisheries, or TIRF) were able to lay the foundations for conducting comprehensive fisheries research.
For the first time, justifications were developed for a large-scale increase in the catch of fish, marine mammals, commercial invertebrates, and algae in the Far Eastern seas, an inventory of the fauna and flora of the Far Eastern waters was conducted, and the chemical composition, nutritional value, and uses of many common aquatic organisms in the Far Eastern seas were determined.
Scientific and directly related industrial achievements of the pre-war years helped successfully solve the problems of providing the front and rear with fish products during the Great Patriotic War.
The purpose of the exhibition is to preserve the memory of the scientists of that time and their exploits in the name of fisheries science.
The exhibition presents the most striking shots reflecting the features of this period, as well as photographs of employees who left a significant contribution to the history of the development of our Institute.
