Opening the meeting, Darius Tyurin called on all participants to actively engage in the discussion of the draft Strategy, noting the importance of constructive dialogue, thanks to which it is possible to find compromise solutions. He thanked the Director of VNIRO for his personal participation in the discussion of an issue important for Khabarovsk Krai, emphasizing that the visit of Kirill Kolonchin and a representative group of VNIRO scientists to Khabarovsk has already become a good tradition.
In his speech, Kirill Kolonchin thanked the regional authorities and personally Darius Tyurin for constructive interaction.
“This is very important, because the regulation of fishing during the fishing season is carried out within the framework of the regional commission. Clear, verified, quick decisions are made based on the developed proposals. We have built relationships with indigenous peoples. I am sure that we will have a businesslike conversation today. We are ready to accept any proposals. We will consider them and discuss them finally at the Far Eastern Scientific and Industrial Council,” said Kirill Kolonchin, addressing the meeting participants.
The director of the Russian anadromous fish department Olga Maznikova and the head of the Khabarovsk branch of VNIRO Denis Kotsyuk made reports, informing the audience about the total projected volume of Pacific salmon catch differentiated by regions of the Far East and in Khabarovsk Krai in particular. Industry science estimates the catch of Pacific salmon in Khabarovsk Krai in 2025 at 36 thousand tons, which corresponds to the general indicators of previous years.
Then the floor was taken by the chairman of the fisheries committee of the Government of Khabarovsk Krai Nikita Korol, who thanked the representatives of VNIRO for the opportunity to discuss the draft strategy with all participants in regional fisheries. He emphasized that the strategy turned out to be balanced, taking into account the interests of both amateur fishermen and indigenous peoples, as well as the region's fishing enterprises.
"The proposed measures are comprehensive. We expect that all this will generally allow us to conduct the 2025 fishing season in a regular, planned mode," said Nikita Korol.
Afterwards, a discussion of the presented draft strategy took place, during which a number of proposals were made, including a possible adjustment to the catch volumes that were taken under control by the Khabarovsk branch of VNIRO.
