VNIRO annually approves scientific recommendations developed by the branch with calculations of maximum permissible annual volumes of release into water bodies of larvae and juveniles of rare and vulnerable fish species: nelma in the Kubena River; whitefish fingerlings (freshwater residential form); sterlet fingerlings; carp fingerlings (Sheksninskoye Reservoir); pike perch fingerlings (small lakes); pike larvae (small lakes).
On May 14, 199.0 thousand nelma larvae were released into the Kubena River near the village of Ustye. The commission for the implementation of state control over the implementation of measures for the artificial reproduction of aquatic bioresources included: Alexander Konovalov, deputy head of the Vologda branch of VNIRO, specialists from the Vologda Department of Fisheries Protection, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Resources of the Vologda Region.
The positive result of artificial reproduction measures is determined by the regularity of the release of young fish in compliance with the maximum permissible release volumes on the spawning rivers Kubena, Sukhona and others. According to the results of scientific research by the branch, the most significant preliminary results were obtained for the populations of nelma in Lake Kubenskoye and sterlet in the Mologa River. The experience of artificial reproduction of nelma showed a fairly high efficiency of introduction both at the larval stage and at the stage of yearlings.
