Releasing sterlet fry into the Oka

On September 3, as part of the national project "Ecology", an event was held dedicated to the release of sterlet fry into the Oka River in the Oryol Region.

As a result of many years of monitoring by the employees of the freshwater fisheries branch of the State Research Center of the Russian Federation, the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO) of aquatic biological resources of the Oryol Region, it was decided to allocate receiving tanks with sterlet fry.

In the village of Dobry in the Oryol Region, a suitable favorable place for the adaptation and growth of sterlet was found. About 17 thousand sterlet fry were released into the source of the Oka River, a hard-to-reach place for predators, which is an important step towards the restoration of a unique fish species listed in the Red Book.

The event was attended by the Governor of the Oryol Region Andrey Klychkov, the head of the Moscow-Oka territorial administration of the Federal Agency for Fisheries Alexander Khatuntsov, the head of the freshwater fisheries branch of VNIRO Alexey Myshkin.

The event helps to increase the number of this type of fish and generally maintain a favorable environment for aquatic biological resources.
