The navaga fishery in the 2024-2025 fishing season began much later than usual - in mid-January 2025 due to the late formation of stable ice cover in the fishing areas. The most powerful approaches of navaga were recorded in the second half of January 2025, at that time the by-catch of Arctic flounder reached 10% of the catch.
Later, the normal course of the fishery was hampered by a strong storm at the height of the fishing, during which part of the ryuzha was lost and a long thaw from the third decade of February. All these circumstances led to a reduction in the fishing season and a small number of fishing gear.
During the field work, the catches included almost only navaga. Arctic flounder were occasionally noted as by-catch. Analysis of the catches in the first days of work showed an uncharacteristically high number of spawning navaga specimens for mid-February. Two-year-old navaga specimens predominated in the catches.
The collected material will be used to assess the number of aquatic bioresources, prepare forecast materials, substantiate the raw material base of fisheries, and develop measures to regulate fisheries.
