Resource studies were conducted on the Mesna River in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug

From August 29 to September 3, employees of the Northern Branch of the Russian State Research Center of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) conducted research on aquatic bioresources on the Mesna River in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug in order to study the state of natural reproduction of Atlantic salmon, as well as other fish species.

35 km of the river were surveyed. A route survey of spawning and nursery areas was conducted. The branch specialists carried out control catches of ichthyofauna, assessed the density of settlement of juvenile Atlantic salmon in spawning and nursery areas. The work program also included sampling for hydrobiological research. In addition, genetic samples were collected to study salmon juveniles.

During the rafting, pink salmon spawning sites were discovered and post-spawning dead individuals were recorded.

The collected material will be used to assess the number of aquatic bioresources, prepare forecast materials, substantiate the raw material base of fisheries, and develop measures to regulate fisheries.
