Evgeny Usolov, Advisor to the Director, took part in the work of the Conference Program Committee, which included representatives of various government agencies and a number of scientific and commercial organizations.
The thematic areas of the Conference are devoted to the consideration of the contribution of marine scientific research to the economic development of the country and ensuring the social needs of society, taking into account the provisions of the Maritime Doctrine of the Russian Federation and the main economic and socially significant expected results of the Decade.
Within the framework of the VNIRO Conference, together with scientists from research institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a session "Science for the long-term sustainable use of the World's Oceans and the conservation of biological diversity" was held. The moderator/coordinator of the session is Alexander Glubokov.
Scientists from the Central Institute, Pacific, Atlantic branches of VNIRO, Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, NSCMB named after A.V.Zhirmunsky FEB RAS, InBUM RAS made presentations at the session.
The speakers presented the main results of research on the World Ocean, both its abiotic and biotic components. The topics of the reports covered the main commercial and significant areas of the World Ocean from the Far Eastern seas and deep-sea ecosystems of the Imperial Ridge in the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic and Southern Oceans.
Based on the results of the Conference, recommendations were made in the final document, which will be presented at the next session of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Committee in the summer of 2024.

The conference was held in accordance with the work plan of the Maritime Board under the Government of the Russian Federation for 2023 with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation and the Interdepartmental National Oceanographic Commission of the Russian Federation.
