Russian and Norwegian scientists discussed the regulation of fishing

On October 21, the 52nd session of the Joint Russian-Norwegian Fisheries Commission (SRNC) concluded its work.

The Russian delegation headed by Ilya Shestakov, Head of the Federal Agency for Fisheries, included the leadership and scientists of the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography: Oleg Bulatov, Director of VNIRO for Scientific Work, Dmitry Vasiliev, Head of the Consolidated Forecast Department of the Department of Fisheries Regulation, Yuri Kovalev, a leading researcher at the Laboratory of Marine Bioresources of the Center for Aquatic Bioresources of the Polar Branch of VNIRO.
 
On the Norwegian side, the delegation was headed by Mette I. Vikborg, Permanent Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Fisheries of Norway.
 
During the session, the parties discussed the prospects for regulating the fishing of cod and haddock, as well as strategies for managing stocks of capelin, blue-horned halibut, sea bass.
 
Russia and Norway expressed satisfaction with the joint work on the study of blue-horned halibut stocks.
 
In addition, the participants considered a number of technical issues to ensure long-term sustainable management of the resource base of the Barents and Norwegian Seas and plans for joint scientific research on the development of Arctic aquatic bioresources, the development of aquaculture and environmental rehabilitation of the northern seas.

Cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Kingdom of Norway is carried out on the basis of the Agreement between the Government of the USSR and the Government of the Kingdom of Norway on Cooperation in the Field of Fisheries of April 11, 1975 and the Agreement between the Government of the USSR and the Government of the Kingdom of Norway on Mutual Relations in the Field of fisheries of October 15, 1976.
 
The decisions taken by the RNC are aimed at the rational use and regulation of the common reserves of Russia and Norway in the Barents Sea and the adjacent waters of the Norwegian and Greenland Seas.
