Scientific observations of the Polar Branch of VNIRO

Specialists from the Polar Branch of the Russian State Research Center “All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography” (VNIRO) conducted research work on board the vessel M-0269 “Strelets” in the Barents and Norwegian Seas, the Norwegian economic zone and the Svalbard archipelago area.

The purpose of the observations was to collect data on the distribution and biological state of bottom fish species, the state of the raw material base of the fishery, the food base of fish, the quantitative accounting of by-catch of juvenile commercial fish, etc.

Data on the biology of cod, haddock, redfish and other bottom fish species obtained in various areas of the Barents and Norwegian Seas in the spring-summer period will be used to prepare forecasts of the state of fish stocks and develop recommendations for their effective use.

After office processing in the specialized laboratories of the branch, the results will become part of the materials for presentation by the Russian side to the Joint Russian-Norwegian Working Group on Arctic Fisheries.
