The Rybinsk reservoir is one of the largest reservoirs in Russia. It is located on the Volga River within the borders of the Yaroslavl, Vologda and Tver regions.
Scientists of the VNIRO Freshwater Fisheries Branch took part in this expedition. The branch conducts state monitoring and assessment of the state of reserves of aquatic biological resources annually.
The main purpose of the work carried out was to monitor the condition and assessment of stocks of aquatic biological resources and their habitat, to determine the values of the total allowable catch and recommended catch of aquatic biological resources.
During the voyage, the catch of aquatic biological resources by trawl was carried out, according to the planned grid of stations and their primary processing, to assess the number and biological indicators of populations of commercial fish species of the Rybinsk reservoir, as well as data collection on safety indicators of the main fish species, analysis for the presence of epizootically and epidemiologically significant parasites and bacteria.
The trawling was carried out according to the schedule and the voyage assignment, the crossings between the locks were carried out in accordance with the requirements for passing ships through the locks of inland waterways. All the planned work has been carried out successfully, the tasks have been completed.
The samples were transferred to the scientists of the branch for further processing in the laboratory. Based on the data obtained, an assessment of the reserves of the Aquatic biological resources (VBR) and their habitat will be carried out, the values of the recommended extraction (catch) of the VBR will be determined, measures for their conservation will be developed.
