A feature of the survey is the total accounting of all biological objects, regardless of their species, the analysis of biodiversity, interspecific relationships, and more. An integral part of the survey is the study of environmental conditions, trawl–acoustic survey of pelagic fish, trawl survey of bottom fish, northern shrimp, opilio strigun crab and oceanographic characteristics of the Barents Sea.
Scientists will also collect materials on zooplankton, the state of the food supply, fish nutrition, receive information on the distribution, abundance of marine mammals, birds and investigate pollution of commercial aquatic organisms and their habitat (including collecting samples for monitoring pollution of the Barents Sea waters with microplastics).
The data obtained will be used to assess the state of stocks, develop forecasts of various timing and determine the volume of catch of aquatic organisms in the Barents Sea.
