Scientists have calculated the reserves of Sakhalin grass shrimp

In August 2024, specialists from the Sakhalin branch of the Russian State Research Center of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) carried out dredging surveys of grass shrimp in the coastal zone of eastern and western Sakhalin. During the work, the main fishing grounds for grass shrimp were investigated.

In the West Sakhalin subzone, the studies were carried out: Section 1 - from Cape Chekhov to the Orlovka River, Section 2 - the southern part of the coast from the village of Chekhov to the city of Kholmsk. During the survey, 42 dredging stations were carried out. The results obtained showed an increase in the stock of western Sakhalin grass shrimp in the northern section and a significant decrease in the southern section due to an increase in anthropogenic impact on this group.

In the East Sakhalin subzone, the studies were carried out in 2 sections: Section 1 - in the area of \u200b\u200bthe First, Second and Third Pads; 2 section – from the village of Muravyovo to the cape Novik. In total, 40 dredging stations were completed during the work.

These studies indicate the absence of positive trends in the growth of the grass shrimp population in the area of the First, Second and Third Pads and positive trends in the section from the village of Muravyovo to the cape Novik.

The data obtained will allow us to assess the current state of the grass shrimp stocks on Sakhalin Island and will be used in preparing the TAC forecast.
