State monitoring of aquatic bioresources continues in the Pechora River delta

During the first stage of the work, carried out using the research boat "Pegasus", employees of the Northern Branch of VNIRO conducted research on aquatic bioresources and their habitat at monitoring stations in the Pechora River delta.

The purpose of the monitoring is to observe the distribution of juvenile whitefish species in feeding areas after their migration from spawning grounds. During the work, studies of the fish habitat were conducted, including meteorological observations and sampling of planktonic and benthic organisms. Fishing of ichthyofauna and biological analysis of fish were also carried out. This year, a significant number of yearlings of whitefish and vendace were found in the catches, which differs from the average long-term monitoring indicators and is associated with a long period of high water in the first half of summer.

After office processing, the research results will be used to develop measures to preserve aquatic bioresources and prepare forecast materials for whitefish species (whitefish, vendace, peled and broad whitefish). The specified materials are used to substantiate the raw material base of fisheries, which will allow for a balanced harvest of whitefish and common fish.
